Heal the World by Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson (MJ). Who doesn’t know MJ? King of the pop he was, king of pop he shall remain. But I am not here today to talk about the man – but I only want to lay emphasis on the man’s messages . All of his songs have fantastic connotations with incredible social messages. But my choice today is on “HEAL THE WORLD”.

A tune we all know, a song we all sang. Indeed it’s a melody that will never die. So, what is the spirit behind the song? MJ in his lyrics tells us that there is a place in the world that needs our help. There are children out there who need us. They need our care, our love, our attention. MJ wants us to realise that there should be no fear in our hearts – and that we MUST ALL feel the tears of helping those who are disadvantaged. It won’t be tears of sadness. As citizens of the world, we are only helping a brother or a sister in need. Who cares about his religion/race, or colour?

That child is just someone who did not get the same chances as you and me! Isn’t it? A couple of years ago, a very good friend of mine told me something very moving. It was on Christmas eve, and she went to a shop to buy some gifts. Neither for her, nor for her family. But it was in her habit to gift them to charity shops every year. She told me “...it is the greatest ever feeling” . I guess she felt the joyful tears of helping the needy. Just a small gesture like this can bring a smile on the faces of so many children. We can all do that, can’t we? Yes we can !

We cannot leave everything to Governments or to God... Human beings should create a better place for themselves. The change starts with and, within us. And remember what you do is for you and for yourself and, not for others. That is to give without expecting anything in return. MJ points this well towards the end of his song, when again and again he says “For You And For Me”. Enjoy the song. It will heal your heart.
